An Introduction

I decided I wanted to do an analysis of something that hits close to home for me. I chose to rhetorically analyze the criticisms and general communications of Feminist culture critic Anita Sarkeesian about issues of sexism as they relate to video games. As an avid "gamer", it's the controversies like Gamergate, as well as issues she brings up that threaten to make someone like me afraid to identify myself as a gamer. I'm hoping that by analyzing and trying to understand the issues further that I might come to see the problems more clearly, and perhaps be able to pinpoint the source of these controversies.

Anita has a talent for maintaining the best times to use the Aristotelian Appeals. She uses an approach that has considers logically all of the way in which something contradicts feminist beliefs or equality, and then conveys emotionally the impact this can have on the content's primary consumers, as well as society in general. By now you may have figured out that I believe what Anita Sarkeesian speaks about is something that should be addressed, and needs to be constructively approached. The amount of anger, fear, and hatred that she gathers is only more evidence that there is a problem which needs to be at least talked about.



Anita Sarkeesian is a feminist mind from Ontario, Canada. She's a critic on video games, specifically in the ways they portray women. She hopes her criticism can bring light to an issue that she explains has been around much longer than even the oldest of video games.
